Asklepion of Pergamon is fifteen minutes drive from Bergama city center. Asklepion used to work like a hospital annexed to Pergamon ancient city. Today some wards and tunnels of this ‘’shrine like’’ hospital can be seen. People of ancient times used to visit this hospital to have their diseases healed. As we know some opium based drugs were used here as pain killer. Also doctor in this ancient hospital cured patients with medicine based on snake poison that is why symbol of hospital used to be a snake. Asclepion was dedicated to Apollo's demi god son ''Asclepius''.
